• Is there a past event that still bothers you?
  • Do you feel stress and emotional reactions when you think about it?
  • Do you have recurring bad dreams, experience fear connected to a particular topic, or avoid certain “normal” activities because of what happened?

EMDR therapy is effective for processing various traumatic and distressing memories.

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, where each letter represents:

  • E – Eye
  • M – Movement
  • D – Desensitization (reducing sensitivity to stress or trauma)
  • R – Reprocessing (re-evaluating and transforming traumatic memories)

What kind of memories can EMDR address

EMDR can effectively treat a wide range of traumatic and distressing memories, including:

  1. Single-event traumas
    • Accidents, abuse
  2. Grief and loss
    • Death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, job, or a significant life event
  3. Self-esteem and confidence issues
    • Experiences of bullying or criticism that left lasting emotional scars
  4. Performance anxiety or fear of public failure
    • Stage fright or fear of failure based on past experiences in sports, academics, etc.
  5. Medical procedure traumas
    • Anxiety-inducing medical treatments, birth trauma (experienced as a mother or child)

EMDR helps process these memories, allowing individuals to detach from emotional stress and reducing long-term negative impact.
